Notes

Solomon Jonson Johnson

NEHGS Record: old wills and deeds, Born Nov. 2,
1690, received his share of his father, Caleb Johnson's estate:
56 acres south of his brother, Caleb, Jr. Married Abagail
Goodenow, daughter of John. Solomon appears to have lived in
Framingham - 1729, but he is also spoken of as from TATNUCK; in
1754-5 1765 & 1768. Solomon deeded his sons: Solomon, John,
Joshua, and Samuel, respectively, 140 acres of land. His son
Peter administered the estate.

908. Isaac Goodnow

Will: Executor Oliver Goodenow, wife Mary, to son Isaac (wife
Susannah) and his two sons Oliver and John, to dau Molly, to
day Bulah, to 2 granddau Polly & Sally (dau of Isaac and
Susannah). Prob: 26 Aug 1806, Newfane, Windham, VT. Early
settlers of Newfane were never molested by Indians, for the
reason that no permanent settlements were made in this town
after the storming and taking of Quebec by Wolf in 1759, and
Montreal in 1760. Then the French lost control over the Indian
Tribes in the Canadas.

931. John Jonas Goodenow

On the petition of his son, Nahum, administration of his estate
was granted to son, John; the widow, Martha had her "thirds" or
dower set off, actually two thirds of the estate being given
her, thus satisfying her request for an "allowance" Feb 14,
1823. The rest of the property was assigned to the son John who
agreed to pay money shares to his brothers and sisters: Jonas,
Nahum, Lydia, wife of John Johnson, Mary, wife of Jedidiah

945. Elijah Goodenow

Unpublished booklet listing the rosters of the Battle of 19 Apr
1775 includes Elijah Goodnow in the list of soldiers who
marched to Headquarters in Sudbury. He next appears on the Tax
rolls of Sudbury through 1791. Also included: he was paid 15
shillings for 5 days work on Canal Bridge and he paid for
firewood and rent for an impoverished neighbor. He died
shortly before 10 Apr 1805 when a bond was issued to David
Goodnow, eldest son of Elijah Goodnow to administer the estate
of his father. On the same date Capt Joseph Goodnow and John
Brigham and Hopstill Willis, all of Sudbury were appointed
appraisers. On 3 Dec 1805, Abel Cutting of Sudbury was
appointed to represent Elijah Goodnow in the division of his
father's will, proof that Elijah Goodnow was the son of Elijah
Goodnow. This Letter of Agency further states that the reason
Abel Cutting had been appointed to represent Elijah Goodnow was
that the latter was "out of government", which would indicate
that he was out of town at the time. On 14 Dec 1805 the
settlement named children: David, Elijah, Adams, Elizabeth,
Nabby, George, and Mary Walker Goodnow. There is no question as
to the identity of the person making out the will since this
will names the same members as are listed in VR of Sudbury, MA.
