Goodenow Family Scholarship

Since its founding during the 2006 Reunion, the GFA Scholarship Fund has supported the higher education aspirations of 21 students, all of whom are related to a member of the Goodenow Family Association. Please help to ensure funding for future students by making a donation to the GFA Scholarship Fund.

Members related to a high school student graduating in 2026 are urged to put the GFA Scholarship deadlines on your high school senior’s calendar. Class of ’26 graduates who intend to continue their education beyond high school at an accredited 2-year or 4-year institution, or plan to take a “gap year” and subsequently enroll in an accredited 2-year or 4-year institution, and who meet the eligibility criteria listed below, are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility criteria are listed below.

    l>
  1. Children or grandchildren of current GFA members. (The level of involvement of parents or grandparents in the Association is considered in the selection process.)
  2. Initial application is open to high school seniors with a cumulative 3.0 grade-point (B) average who are (a) applying for admission to an accredited 2- or 4-year post-secondary educational institution in the fall following their high school graduation, or (b) planning a “gap year” followed by enrollment at an accredited 2- or 4-year post-secondary educational institution.
  3. Submission of a formal application together with confidential reference forms, an official grade transcript and a recent photo are due by March 1 of the year of high-school graduation.
  4. Written proof of acceptance and enrollment as a full time student (12 semester hours) at an accredited 2- or 4-year institution, unless planning a “gap year”. Those planning a “gap year” must submit an outline of what is planned during the “gap year” and which institution(s) are under consideration following the “gap year.
  5. Applicants outside of the U.S. are eligible, but should first contact the Oversight Committee Chair in case date adjustments are necessary due to different school schedules.
  6. Requests for application forms should be made by the student in writing to the Oversight Committee Chair (address below), and must be received by December 31, 2026. Completed applications must be received by the Committee Chair by March 15, 2026. Failure to meet the submission deadline will result in disqualification for the scholarship.
The Scholarship Oversight Committee’s decision will be announced by April 15, 2026.
The scholarship ($1,000 per year to a student enrolled at 2-year institution or $1,500 per year to a student enrolled at a 4-year institution) will be made directly to the student once the Committee has received proof of enrollment as a full-time student. If the first-year recipient of the GFA Scholarship maintains the required 3.0 GPA, that recipient may request an extension of the scholarship for each subsequent academic year, up to and including year 4.
Please contact H. David Pendleton with any questions. We remind our members that donations (non tax-deductible) may be made to the Association’s Scholarship Fund.
